Suji(semolina) ka namkin halwa


250 gm. suji

4 tbsp. ghee(refined oil)

1/4 tsp. mustard seeds

10-15 curry patta

1 medium size carrot (chopped)

1 medium size potato(chopped)

5 cloves garlic(chopped)

1 small onion (chopped)

2 green chilies ( chopped)

1/2 inch ginger (chopped)

1/2 liter HOT water

1/2 tsp. salt

1/4 tsp. hing (asafoetida)

1/2 tbsp. lemon juice


Heat 1 tbsp. ghee in a heavy bottomed frying pan, add mustard seeds, as spluttering starts add curry patta, hing, garlic, chili, ginger( maintain order & add one by one), after 1/2 minute add onion and stir well fry till light golden color occurs, add carrot, potato and salt, stir well, fully cover it, lower the flame. remove heat after 3 minutes. Do not open the cover, set aside, cool it naturally.

Dry fry suji in another heavy frying pan until light brown color occur, add remaining 3 tbsp. of ghee, stir well, add hot water carefully, add material of 1st pan, medium flame, stir continuously, cook for 3-5 minutes, Halwa is ready.

serve hot with tomato sauce.
