PHALDARI KOFTA (Raw Banana Koftas)

Serves:  4

Preparation time: 10 mins.

Cooking time:  30 Mins.

Ingredients:

For the banana koftas:

2 nos. raw bananas

1 onion, finely chopped

1 tsp. ginger, chopped

2 nos. green chillies

1 tbsp. refined flour (maida)

oil to fry

salt to taste

For the gravy:

1 cup tomato puree

1 tsp. red chilli powder

1 tsp. garam masala powder

1 tsp. ginger-garlic paste

1 tsp. cumin seeds

1 bay leaf

1 tbsp. coriander leaves, chopped

½ cup ghee/oil

Method:

For the koftas:

1. Pressure cook the bananas for 4-5 whistles (about 10 mins.)

2. Add the refined flour, onion, ginger, chillies and salt to the bananas.  Mix well and form marble-sized balls.

3. Deep fry the balls in hot oil and keep aside.

For the gravy:

1. Heat ghee or oil in a pan.

2. Add the bay leaves and cumin seeds to it.

3. When the seeds crackle, add the ginger garlic paste, tomato puree, red chilli and garam masala powder and cook for 3-4 mins.

4. Add water and salt and boil till the mixture thickens.

How to proceed:

1. Add the koftas to the gravy and simmer for 5 mins.

2. Sprinkle with coriander leaves and serve hot.
