Aval payasam Recipe

This recipe comes from Kerala, prepare the aval payasam with milk and poha or rice flakes. A perfect festival dessert item.

4 tbsp beaten rice (poha)
3 tbsp ghee
1 cup sugar
2 cups milk
1 cup condensed milk

For Garnish, Flavour & Colour :
5 to 10 cashewnuts (kaju), chopped
5 to 10 raisins (kismis)
1 pinch of saffron (kesar) strands (soaked in milk)
1/4 tsp cardamom (elaichi) powder


First you have to fry the poha in ghee till light brown in colour now you have to add milk (not the condensed milk) to dampen poha & pressure cook for 5 min. Mix the sugar in remaining milk & boil it and finally add all the ingredients except condensed milk slowly & mix it well. Once the mixture becomes thick add condensed milk and again mix it well, Garnish with dry cashew nuts and serve
